Information and Communication
The collection area focusing on 'Information and communication' is divided into five major subsections:

The most comprehensive section, on 'Communication, audio and video technology', comprises collections on telegraphy, telephony, radio, television as well as video and transmission technology.

Another subsection, 'Writing, printing and duplication technologies', features objects from the history of office technology, typewriters - including early typewriters by Peter Mitterhofer - as well as devices and machines employed in the manifold printing and duplication processes in use since the late 18th century.

The third section, 'Photography and film' includes collections of the chief visual media to evolve since the 19th century, including a Lumière cinématographe.

Collections of calculators and computing machinery - including Heinz Zemanek's legendary 'Mailüfterl' mainframe computer and IBM's first personal computer - are subsumed in the 'Data processing' section.

The fifth and final section, 'Postal system', is comprised of the collections of the former Vienna Post and Telegraph Museum, with a special emphasis on the period between 1890 and 1960.
